Shree Lakshmi Narain Raag Sabha is one of the oldest
institutions of Indian classical music. The First Raag Sabha Sammelan was held in
the year 1905 at the historical ground where the most sacred Shree Lakshmi Narain
Mandir (Shree Durgiana Mandir) Amritsar was erected 20years Later in the year 1925.
Since then the Raag Sammelan, an annual music convention is being held regulary
under the management of Shree Lakshmi Narain Raag Sabha, with in the sacred precincts
of Shree Duriana Temple Complex during the days of holi festival. This musical extravaganza
celebration the spirit of the spring season. The melodious of the instruments resmate
with the flair of the nature and the joy of the heart.

Most of the renowned artists of Hindustani classical music from various parts of
the Indian sub-continent have renered their performances at this annual Raag Sabha
from time to time Stalwarts of indiian classic music, both(vocal & instrumental).
Entry to the annual Raag Sammelan has always been kept free of the any charges.
Expenses of the Raag Sabha are met out of voluntary contributions and sponsorships made
by the gracious citizens and businessmen of the holy city, wellwishers and by the subscriptions
of the members of the organizing committee.
Receiving extensive coverage from the media, the proceedings of the Raag Sabha, now
reaches millions of the music lovers. The Raag Sabha provides an opportunity to music
lovers, to meet and listen to the scores of artists at a single platform every
year. The three-day long music festival keeps the music lovers over joyed while listening
to their favorite artists.
The tradition of the Raag Sabha during Holi Festival was pioneered by a great
lover of music and a renowned philanthropist, Late Sh. Gursahai Mal Kapoor, in
the year 1905. He partonized the Raag Sabha till his death in year 1935. The organization continued to received
patronage of Late Sh. Madan Lalji Kappor (alias Maddo Mal) till his Death in the
year 1973 and thereafter, his dedicated collegues namely Shri Ram Lubhaya Kapoor, Shri Dina Nath Kapoor, Shri Lajpat
Rai Khanna, Shri Jugal Kishore Mehra, Shri Raj Kumar Sachdeva have continued to serve the inherited cause of music.
Since 2006, Advocates- Shri Sudarshan Kapoor, Shri Sudhir Mehra, Late Shri Subhash khanna and his son Shri Amit Khanna
& Shri Vinod Sachdeva and Shri Sunil Jain along with a dedicated team of music lovers of the holy city have also actively and
enthusiastically associated themselves in successfully holding the annual Raag Sabha, with the active co-operation, support and
patronage of the music lovers and the citizens of this holy city.

50 Years of Glorious Service
to the Raag Sabha Society
Shri Lajpat Rai Khanna a music Lover and Promoter of Indian Classical Music, the present General Secretary of Shree Laxmi Narain Raag
Sabha Society(Regd.), Amritsar, has completed 50 years in serving society in various capacities. Shri Lajpat Rai Khanna comes from a
textile manufacturing business family. During his younger years, he used to accompany his elder brother to Raag Sabha music programmes.
In 1967, he attended Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi ji's recital and was mesmerized. And, thereafter, there wa no looking back and he
continued to promote music. Over the long period, he honed the skill of knowing the difference between 'Chalk and Cheese' and introduced
best of artists. He equally promoted local artists. He is a master Audtion Director in Raad Sabha.
'Raag Sabha' Music Society was started by Shri Gursahai Mal Kapoor(1866- 1935) in 1905 and successfully promoted indian Classical Music
Where artists from all over India participated. After completing 100 years in 2005, due to Paucity of funds, the society was at the brink
of closure, but with the efforts of Great Personalities of Amritsar like Shri Sudarshan Kapoor, Advocate and many other continuing with
renewed vigour and zeal, where the best artists of the country continue to participate during holi festival.
Raag Sabha has the distinction of inviting great artists like Pt. Bhim Sen Joshi, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Allah Rakha Khan, Ustad
Ali Akbar Khan, Pt. Hari Parsad Chaurasia, Ustad Bishmillah Khan, to name a few.
Shri Lajpat Rai Khanna Continues to serve Shree Laxmi Narain Raag Sabha Society, Amritsar with renewed vigour and vitality. God bless
